Design trends come and go for many reasons and although breaking the mould is often best, it’s good to at least recognise what’s trending in the industry. I follow a few web and graphic design blogs in order to keep up to date with opinions on current design trends and just generally what’s going on. So here’s what’s popular this month:

  1. Minimal navigation & layout – exaggerated use of space and colour to free up screen space and improve focus
  2. Colour blocks – dark background overlays, gradients and solid colour overlays for visual enhancement
  3. Moving image backgrounds – video playback or still moving images for interactivity
  4. Split screen layout – two site sections allowing for content diversity and a natural visual hierarchy
  5. Italics and hollow lettering – a creative and fresh take on typical type styles
